Men’s Ministry Horsethief Canyon river trip

Four-day canoe trip down the Colorado River from Fruita, Co to Westwater, Utah. We will leave Greeley Sept 25 (Wed) and return the 28th (Sat). We will stage canoes and vehicles on Wed staying overnight at the Fruita, La Quinta hotel and launch sharply at 6:30 – 7:00 Thursday (26th) morning.

About 5-miles downriver we will tie up at the mouth of Rattlesnake Canyon and climb up to the Rattlesnake Arches, an approximate 5-mile rather strenuous (class III climb) round-trip hike. First night on the river we make camp at Mee’s Corner (per our permit - one of the most desirable spots on the river) and the next day canoe approximately 5 miles through some class II rapids to Knowles Canyon, the last night camping. All overnight camping along this section of the Colorado requires a permit. We finish the canoe trip the next morning (28th) and take out at Westwater, Utah.

Everyone is required to bring their own bedding, cooking utensils and food (wt. & amount is critical but should be adequate for inclement weather). Normally there is enough tent space but it will depend on the number of participants. We currently own 4 canoes (2 people to each canoe) so it is likely someone may need to rent one. Several vehicles will be driving down Wed morning, however, some may prefer to come later in the day. If not traveling in your own vehicle the cost will be around $100 per person if we sleep 3 to a hotel room.
